We love working with different woods and cutting boards give us a great chance to do just that.
Here are some recent ones we have crafted.
These custom built barn doors replaced some boring slab sliding closet doors.
We installed new heavy duty sliding tracks that will handle the weight and daily use of the new doors. The barn door wheels on the visible track above move with the outer door though they are not supporting any weight.
Both doors open allowing access to either side of the storage closet.
This was an old deck that had been poorly constructed and neglected for many years. At one time there was an above ground pool on one end.
We started by tearing out the old deck and clearing the ground. Once that was done, we commenced with building the new deck in its place.
This is a straight forward design with 2×12 drop beams and 2×10 joists. The deck features a fully enclosed skirt. There is a gate at each set of steps as well as a gate for access to the utilities in the corner.
The transformation of this living space is drastic with the update to the fireplace. It required removing three shelves sticking out of the brick above the fireplace. The brick was painted white to provide the great contrast against the darkly stained new mantel. Once that was accomplished we were able to install the new wrap-around mantel.
The mantel even has a built-in recessed outlet for the TV which now changes above it. The mantel is oak and finished with Jacobean stain and semi-gloss polyurethane.
We also added a floating shelf on the opposite wall front he mantel.
What can we create to transform your favorite living space?
This keepsake box was crafted for a client to give to a friend for her 18th Birthday. It was filled with a scrapbook of their friendship.
The box is made from poplar. Poplar has a beautiful natural grain with great contrast. The lid is crafted from Yellowheart, Beli, Zebrawood, and framed in Mahogany. The lid is routed to fit on the box without sliding around.
The box and lid were finished with a clear satin polyurethane.
What can we custom create for you to give to a special person in your life?
This was a big job as not required building two separate decks side by side in one yard.
There were some challenges to overcome with elevation, an existing concrete patio and the pool.
We added a access to the hose spigot complete with a hangar for the hose on the main deck.
The client wanted as unobstructed view as possible of the pool from inside the house. To accommodate this, the choice was made to go with stairs all the way across the front of the house deck. We also went with black aluminum railing on the pool deck as it is less intrusive visually than a wood railing would be and still meet safety and city code requirements. A storage bin was added under the pool deck to utilize the space and provide a place for longer pool floats.
The corner steps add a nice flair to the overall design.
Another satisfied client.
What can build to enhance your life?
Once the old deck was removed, we built a new deck in its place tying in to a part of the existing deck on the far end that did not need to be replaced. The client added steel cables for railing on the three section at the front left to have as unobstructed view of the river as possible.
What can we custom design and create for you?
This is a deck made from composite material for the decking, stairs, fascia, and railing. Composite is more expensive, but it requires almost no maintenance compared to treated lumber.
We used what is called a “picture frame” effect on the decking. It has two rows of darker decking that are a much darker color than the rest of the decking.
We are very pleased with the two-toned look of this deck and the contrasts it creates.
The client is very happy and will enjoy this deck for years and years to come.
This wall hanging is made from reclaimed lumber. The flag of Ohio really stands out against the dark stain.
What can we create to add the special touch to your home?
This is a beautiful piece of furniture. Crafted from an old cherry slab that had been collecting dust for years in a garage. Purpleheart bowties were inserted to stabilize the crack in the slab and add some great contrasting character. The legs are custom fabricated 1/2″ x 2″ steel by our friends at Friesen Fab & Equipment in Plain City, OH.
We used clear epoxy to fill in the cracks and natural divots in the wood while maintaining the beauty of the wood. Oil and a satin poly finish it off with a great low gloss natural look.
